Understanding More About an Alcoholic Relationship

September 1, 2010

Alcoholism     People who suffer from drinking problems wreck~ Alcoholics have a tendency to demolish} close relations between friends and families day-to-day. Somebody who has a drinking problem can affect way too many different people’s lives in negative ways. Many people who suffer from alcoholism have other addictions as well. It’s a haunting, progressive disease, but the problem-drinker truly doesn’t understand how their sickness is touching those around them. It is only when a person decides to get sober that they really start to realize how many people were seriously affected by their choices to drink. When they finally fall to their bottom and are desperate for help  that is when the enlightenment of what they have done hits them.

The alcoholic/addict will either quit, go brain-sick or pass away from their addiction .

Devastation in the Family

When an unexpected death of a young ladies husband interrupts her life, she finds herself in the grips of alcoholism. Not long after the death of her husband, she meets a man and decides to get remarried, then she found herself drinking too much on a steady basis. Her new husband made plenty of money so she was able to stay home and not work. Slowly she became an in house drunk. She was not nice at all when anyone would try to interrupt her plans for getting plastered in a day. Through many years of getting sober, then drinking again, she committed to attend support group meetings on a regular basis. The lasting effects of her choices are still apparent even twenty five years afterward.

A Man Living on the Streets Is Killed from Drinking too Much

Jim had been an alcoholic for twenty five years when his alcoholism deathly progressed. He had lived on the streets for ten years. Reading the news paper, getting drunk and sleeping behind market stores was the life Jim had become accustomed to. I’ll never forget how sad I was when he told me he was going to die. I had taken a special interest in him because he was so young. I really was hopeful that he would go into a rehab, but life takes funny unexpected turns. Just prior to Jim fading into eternity, he accepted Christ as his personal savior and Lord. beholding him praying to God in the final hours of his life was rather rewarding.

Alcoholism in the Family Destroys This Marriage

Who would have though that her dreams to be a nurse would contribute to the break-up of her family. As her addiction progressed-so did the late nights away from home and the alcohol ingestion.  She was a pro at keeping everyone in the family walking on egg- shells. The sooner she could start a fight at home-the quicker she bolted out the doors to get to where the parties where happening. As the fighting and arguing progressed so did the desire to get divorced. The husband, children and wife were all greatly affected by one persons choice to persist to chase after alcohol, drugs and the party life.

What People Share in AA

People every day share in twelve step meetings how alcoholism has destroyed famlies and friendships. Most alcoholic/addicts do not realize the damage that has been done until they get sober and look back at the wreckage of their past. It’s a rare occurrence to find someone who has an addiction problem that does not have several severed relationships. Car accidents permanently alter the course of peoples lives and the person who gets a DUI looses their drivers liscene.Billions of stories are shared yearly in Al-anon and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings of how alcohol has affected their lives.

Have you seen the creative interludes that beer companies air on TV? They make drinking alcohol look like it will make you happy and fun to be with.

There is not an ounce of truth in what you are seeing!

The mother in our story looked atrocious as she lay on the floor so intoxicated that she could not move. That is the reality of where an addiction to alcohol will take you.

The death of the homeless man give a much clearer understanding of what alcohol can do. The media never shows the devastation of the alcoholics life.

The divorced family of the nurse who was going full blast in her addiction to alcohol and drugs is more of the true story of what an addiction will do to relationships. The media has it all wrong.I don’t think a liquor manufacturer will ever air a TV advertisement  like the story of the nurse whose family was wrecked from alcohol. The lady whose family split because of her drinking problem is more like what an addiction to alcohol will deliver. The commercials have it all backward.

If you or someone you know is suffering from drinking or another persons choices to consume alcohol, there are two places where you can get help.  Al-anon is designed to help the friends and family members of the alcoholic. Alcoholics Anonymous is a program that focuses on getting the problem drinker sober.

Nothing in your life will change until you make changes. I’ve given you specific directions as to where you can get help. The relationships in your life are worth you putting in the effort to find a support group meeting.
